Introduction
The labour market is changing fast. Employers need workers with digital and AI skills, but many adults lack these competences. At the same time, adult educators often do not have the training to teach these skills effectively. The DAMET project is helping to close this gap.
The Skills Gap Challenge
Across Europe, there is a growing demand for digital skills. The European Skills Agenda aims to bring the total number of adults with basic digital skills to 230 million by 2030, as part of the Digital Decade’s target of 80% of EU citizens having at least basic digital skills.
Many adults, especially those with fewer opportunities, are at risk of being left behind. This is not just a problem for individuals. It also affects businesses and the wider economy.
Adult educators play a key role in addressing this challenge. They can help learners develop the skills needed for today’s jobs. But educators themselves need upskilling. They need to understand AI and digital tools and know how to teach them in practical, engaging ways.

How DAMET Connects Education and Work
DAMET focuses on equipping adult educators with AI and digital competences that are relevant to the labour market. The project develops:
✔ A free e-learning programme on AI tools used in the workplace
✔ A micro-credential system that validates educators’ skills
✔ Practical training modules on tools like ChatGPT, Zoom AI, and InVideo
✔ Resources available in seven languages
The micro-credential system is particularly important. It offers a flexible way to recognise skills that employers value. This helps educators and learners demonstrate their competences in a way that is credible and portable.
Benefits for Educators and Employers
Educators who complete the DAMET training can improve their teaching and gain formal recognition for their digital skills. This makes them more effective in the classroom and more competitive in the job market.
